TRANSITION
What I distinctly remember is leaning on a door frame and thinking “why on earth do women have more than one baby, what is wrong with them, this is awful” I also remember the midwife trying to tell me something about getting me down the corridor with no one else around, so I didn’t feel embarrassed. “I couldn’t give a s*&t if Brad Pitt was stood there” were my exact words.
So what happened, why did I suddenly feel overwhelmed and as if I was about to lose the plot?
Nature, my super clever body knew where we were at on the journey, and it was gearing me up for that final stage of labour.
Let me explain. Transition- This is the point where your cervix is fully dilated and to give it a helping hand our body throws in a huge boost of oxytocin and adrenalin. This little combination is just what we need for the final stage of labour.
This is also the point where every birthing woman in the land suddenly goes “I can’t do this”.
I’m here to tell you that you can. These few moments of crazy are a good sign. You are almost ready to meet your baby, you mama have very nearly done it. So instead of feeling overwhelmed use it as a sign of encouragement that things are hotting up and before you know it you will have your baby in your arms.
Other signs you are very close to birth are:
- Blood spotting
- Fluctuation in temperature, feeling very hot or shivery.
- Nausea/ possible vomiting (although this is less likely to happen in hypnobirthing mums as your muscles are more relaxed
- The need to poo
This is the perfect time in labour to dig deep and use all your hypnobirthing techniques.
