I was nervous about being induced as I was hoping for labour to start naturally and I was worried I wouldn’t have a water birth. However I tried everything to get it started but I had no signs of labour starting. I accepted to be induced at 41+5days.
Hypnobirthing helped me as I knew I was in charge of my body. I knew the process, I had the knowledge of labour, I learnt the positive affirmations and breathing techniques, and this was all thanks to Kerry.
I was induced at 9am, I was lucky that the pessary started it of for me straight away, surges started around 10am and gradually increased throughout the day. I used my breathing techniques throughout. Between 10pm and 2:30am I went from 1cm to 7cm.
At 3am I was taken to the pool room, which was lit up lovely, as soon as I got in the water my waters broke. I was completely relaxed and zoned out, I had the relaxation music on and I actually fell asleep in-between my surges. I remember my midwife saying how calm and quiet I was. My partner was amazing the whole time making sure I was hydrated, passing me the gas and air (although it started to make me feel sick so I only used this a few times) reassuring me to breathe and inhale the aromatherapy stick to relax me.
I started active labour around 8.15am, my baby’s head was engaged. I could feel her head, a few more pushes and she would be out but I needed a little help so I had an episiotomy which happened so quickly the midwives/doctors were amazing and Harpur Violet was born 9:41am Wednesday 7th July.
I was also worried about breastfeeding, stressing I wouldn’t be able to do it. Kerry went through all this with me, learning how to latch, how to hold, sending positive messages when I felt like I was struggling and now 8 weeks in. I am loving my breastfeeding journey.
