Positive induction

Positive induction

Induction

I went in the hospital to be induced at 41 + 4 weeks after 3 unsuccessful sweeps and testing out all the natural ways to bring on labour from 37 weeks (dates, raspberry leaf tea & lots of walking!!).

I had the pessary inserted at 10am on the 16th Feb, nothing happening throughout the day until 6:30pm I felt dull contractions in my lower back, the midwife told me to start to time how long they were lasting and how far apart they were. As they grew stronger and closer together, I began to use the breathing techniques I had learnt in the hypnobirthing session with Kerry which I found very very helpful!!

As the pain was becoming more stronger around 9pm I took paracetamol to help ease the pain along with the breathing techniques still. The pain was now growing more unbearable around 1am so I asked the midwife to check if I had dilated as I definitely thought I was in active labour but she checked and I still hadn’t! The midwife told me to get some rest and try to sleep through the pain, at this point I accepted the pethidine injection to help calm me down and ease the pain.

Using our Hypnobirthing techniques

The whole room was so relaxing and calming with dimmed lighting and we had our music on, my partner was massaging my lower back with the techniques he had learnt in the session to help with the contractions. I then fell asleep and woke up around 2am in a pool of water and blood, now feeling the urge to push!! My partner ran to get the midwife and she said I had dilated 10cm and the pessary had come out on its own, I was meeting my baby!! 40 minutes of pushing and he was here. Unfortunately, he came out with the cord wrapped around his neck, so we were unable to have delayed cord clamping and skin to skin straight away as they needed to help him breathe and check him over.

Highly recommend

Although my birth plan didn’t go as I hoped, I wouldn’t have been able to get through it without the breathing techniques I had learnt with Kerry as they are what helped me power through every contraction I was getting. We are so glad we took part in the hypnobirthing course as we went into the birth Centre more relaxed and educated on knowing what to expect at each stage of labour. We would definitely recommend Kerry at Beautiful Births and we will definitely be coming back for a refresher session if we are lucky enough to have another baby in the future.
