Fin and Bonnie Sex: Boy – Delivery: C-section Due date: 26/8/2009 Date of Birth: 16/8/2009 Plan: Elective C-section 18/8 on account of my medical history at the time. I asked very little and assumed that was the best plan for me and my baby. Water break: Like a pin in a water balloon at 4am… Continue Reading

Unexpected but beautiful second birth

Unexpected but beautiful second birth

Introduction I came to Kerry during my second pregnancy. Already dreading giving birth having waited 4 years to conceive following a horrible labour first time around (obviously hadn’t hypnobirthed!) I’ll admit to being somewhat skeptical. I wasn’t a first time mum, I’d been through this, knew the process. So what could she possibly teach me… Continue Reading

Labour My mucus plug started coming away Sat afternoon, I still thought I might have a few days at least. I was having Braxton hicks, then my waters went at 9pm Sat 16/01. I rang the south lakes birth centre and got checked to make sure it was my waters and then got sent home… Continue Reading

The Back ground In all honesty, I couldn’t have asked for a more positive birth experience. But, this is something that did not come naturally to me and if you had spoken to me at the beginning of my pregnancy, I was far from positive and calm. I think this was partly due to the… Continue Reading

Hypnobirthing- In a nut shell

Setting the scene You announce your pregnant. Quickly following the words congratulations, you hear. ‘It will hurt!’, ‘You’ll never feel pain like it…!’ Seemingly innocent tales from friends and relatives. Dramtisations in films or tricky real-life births on TV programmes. The message is consistent – bringing a baby into the world is no walk in… Continue Reading

What is Hypnobirthing?

What is Hypnobirthing?

What is hypnobirthing?   Without a doubt the thought of giving birth can stir up many emotions. Fear, anxiety, excitement, or a mixture of all these combined. Indeed giving birth is such a pivotal moment in a woman’s life, which is why it is so important the experience is a positive one. As a result… Continue Reading

What is our pelvic floor and why is it important?

What is our pelvic floor and why is it important?

What is it? Essentially, the pelvic floor is a layered muscle that keeps your important pelvic organs – the uterus, bowel, bladder, rectum or top of the vagina – in the correct place.  Pregnancy and childbirth increase the strain on these muscles. The Pelvic floor muscle carries extra weight while you are pregnant. Like any… Continue Reading

Positive Induction

Positive Induction

Lucy’s birth didn’t go quite to plan, but Kerry had talked about this possibility in our zoom sessions so I was prepared! The sessions took away the apprehension and fear of giving birth and I actively looked forward to it. As Lucy went well overdue despite everything I tried, we opted to accept induction, but… Continue Reading

Welcome to the world Oakley

Welcome to the world Oakley

I was so happy that we chose to do hypnobirthing, I was quite nervous about birthing and being in hospital and then we went into lock down and it just amplified all my worries about hospitals. However we found Kerry on my beautiful births she was amazing explaining things and helping work through all my… Continue Reading

Third Trimester

The third trimester, now what does that look like? I am going to assume you are over 28 weeks, you may even be into single figures and ticking down the days. However maternity leave may have started or be bobbing on the horizon. In other words the date circled in your best purple highlighter in… Continue Reading

I really enjoyed my time with Kerry learning new techniques to help put my mind at ease about labour and birth and all the different scenarios that can take place when its time for the baby to be here. I feel so much better being able to go through the rest of my pregnancy feeling more in control and ready for whatever happens next. Kerry is so easy to get on with and it felt like talking to a friend every week, which was great! I would definitely recommend Hypnobirthing to other mums to be in future.

Our Aim

The Calm births course uses a combination of Hypnobirthing techniques and practical antenatal education. We will ensure you are familiar with the physical and hormonal changes that take place within your body during labour and learn to embrace those feelings. Trusting not only your amazing body but your mind and your baby, keeping that lovely oxytocin flowing with a positive mindset throughout. These tools along with other practical techniques for you and your birth partner to use include, deep relaxation, simple breathing techniques and light touch massage, our aim is to support and empower you to achieve your own calm, beautiful birth, what ever that may look like, whether that be a vaginal or a C-section birth, hypnobirthing can have such a positive impact.

Molly’s Birth

Molly’s Birth

It started with very mild contractions on Wednesday evening. I woke up on Thursday and these had got a little stronger. I phoned the birth centre to make them aware and they agreed that I was in very early labour and to start timing contractions and call back in a couple of hours with an… Continue Reading

Hypnobirthing classes First baby, not a clue about birth or even how to care for a baby, so booking sessions with Kerry was the best thing we ever did. My initial thought was that hypnobirthing would involve holding crystals whilst chanting the baby down the birth canal with voodoo rituals – It’s really not. Hypnobirthing… Continue Reading

Induction I went in the hospital to be induced at 41 + 4 weeks after 3 unsuccessful sweeps and testing out all the natural ways to bring on labour from 37 weeks (dates, raspberry leaf tea & lots of walking!!).   I had the pessary inserted at 10am on the 16th Feb, nothing happening throughout… Continue Reading
